March 31

It was one year ago today that Terri Schiavo died, ending what most people recognize was an embarrassing political and media circus. Instead of letting the poor woman rest in peace, one of America’s most disgusting and immoral opportunists is using the anniversery as an excuse to beg for money.

After a humiliating loss in a Congressional race in New York State where he ran on a platform of no taxes, no social security, no abortion, and hating homosexuals, Randall Terry divorced his wife of 19 years, apparently because of his serial adultery. He eventually ended up in Florida, buying a $432,000 house with contributions solicited on the internet while falling behind on his child support payments. He later disowned all three of his children — his gay son because of his hatred for homosexuals, and his daughers because they had sex without taking appropriate precautions (which often happens when ignorance is peddled in the name of “abstinence-only”).

His hysterical ranting about Terri Schaivo put off even fellow conservatives, as does his position favoring the death penalty for homosexuals. He’s now running for the Florida State Senate, eighth district — as a Republican (of course) — and he wants your financial support. His web site says that “Mr. Terry’s opponent is a liberal, left wing Republican who is responsible for the death of Terry Schiavo.”

So, what do you say? Ya gonna hook him up? (If so, you also might consider supporting a candidate in Tennessee who is almost as deranged as Mr. Terry)

Friday Creature

I’m going to take a quick break from the ducks and geese of Fall Creek Falls, because this beautiful bird just fell into my lap this week. There I was, groggily brushing my teeth one morning and I glanced out the bathroom window and saw a huge flock of waxwings swarming all over the bushes that run along side the house. I found a good vantage point, started snapping photos and poof!! — here’s one of the better bird pictures I’ve ever captured! I’m sure a lot of you are familiar with the Cedar Waxwing (and some may have witnessed their feeding frenzies first hand). Look closely and you can see the yellow tip of its tail behind those yummy berries.

Have a great weekend (have you gotten enough of a creature fix this morning?)!

UPDATE: Here’s another shot (below), with a better view of that yellow-tipped tail.

Some goofiness for the weekend

It’s almost Friday! I put this up on youtube this past weekend, but have been so busy since I forgot about it. It’s just a silly little thing, but it cracks me up…

Baby Aborts Fetuses

Well, here’s a case. A 2-month old Pakistani baby, who was a triplet, was born with her two siblings in her womb. Surgeons removed the fetuses in an operation that, in the United States, could be made illegal in South Dakota, Tennessee and other states where the no-exceptions Forced Childbirth Lobby is trying to have their way.

Blogosphere 1 Lame Candidate 0

This is a great story about a desperate and dishonest candidate (who is, ironically, running to fill fellow republican Duke Cunningham’s shoes) who lied about a picture on his web site and got caught — not by the press, which apparently doesn’t check the facts anymore (maybe they’re too busy having off-the-record chats at the White House), but by individuals working together on the blogosphere. Nice job, guys!

UPDATE: LOL! Kaloogian’s mea culpa!

Sunset

This didn’t turn out as well as I hoped it would, but since I almost caused a car wreck while snapping it as I was driving across the Veterans Bridge, I figure I better make it worth the effort by putting it up. It is last night’s sunset. Wheeee!

The New Colossus

weguelin.jpg
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

(words are by Emma Lazarus and can be found here)

Antonin Scalia Unhinged?

Via John at AmericaBlog who observed, “the thought of flipping somebody off in church, minutes after receiving the Eucharist, is just, well, beyond shocking, insulting, infuriating.” What is going on witih these people? First Cheney drops the f-bomb in the hallowed chambers of Congress, and now a U.S. Supreme Court Justice is giving people the finger at church?!?

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia startled reporters in Boston just minutes after attending a mass, by flipping a middle finger to his critics.

Be Still My Heart!

Prediction: Al Gore Will Be Elected President in 2008 (from Jon Ponder at the Pensito Review).

And then this from Time Magazine:

The signs suggest an anti-Republican wave is building, says nonpartisan electoral handicapper Stuart Rothenberg, whose Rothenberg Political Report is closely followed in Washington. “The only question is how high, how big, how much force it will have. I think it will be considerable.” (via TGW)
