Let it be known…

G-Dog has been tracking the Last Album Left Alive and has gone on the record with the following prediction:

I notice they’ve already eliminated albums by bands they’ve already covered on Halloween – Beatles, The Who, Talking Heads, VU. Obvious, but interesting that they just got rid of them right away.

Personally, I’m pulling for Ziggy Stardust. Bowie has three albums on the list (Scary Monsters, Ziggy, and Hunky Dory), which I think is more representation than any other artist has. Could be a clue. Plus, a “David Bowie” in the first set would be irresistible.

Further, Ziggy would make sense for Trey’s whole “penance” thing, which seems to be a theme this year – the screwed up rock star, etc…

“He took it all too far, but boy could he play guitar…”

Plus, the breakup last (almost) “five years” – and can you imagine Page featured on “Lady Stardust”?

I’m calling this one.

I think if he calls this right, G-Dog should be treated to a trip to the show. Especially since, a number of years ago (on July 21, 2004, to be specific), G-Dog and I were hanging out in Times Square and we saw Trey was also there with his family. G-Dog was wearing a Phish shirt at the time and I was poking him and saying, “come on! go say hi — it’s Trey freakin’ Anastasio!,” but G-Dog was all about not bugging the guy while he was trying to enjoy an afternoon out with his family, so he never did go over. Now, how cool was that?

The photographic evidence… Trey in Times Square, July 21, 2004

PS… PLUS, there’s a family connection, since my cousin Kenny ran into Trey up in SPA State Park in Saratoga Springs in 2007!

Zombies!

This (more here) might just get me out to the theater — for the first time since The Dark Knight!

Sunday Links & a Song

This is a short list, especially considering the fact that it’s been a while since I’ve done links, but I’m tired of the politics that are filling our headlines. The best course of action here is to hide in the great music of geniuses like Elvis Costello (while reading a bit about the other stuff):

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Two can play that game (and some other protest signs — some of my favorites: “My two moms can beat up your 14 wives,” and “They’re the ones that keep having gay babies!”).

• Sigh. Back to health care. Let’s just go ahead and cover everybody already — even the constituents who manage to survive Boehner. One way or another we’re going to pay for their health care anyway.

• I just started trying out google sidewiki this weekend. As one contributor pointed out, the implications here are numerous — and not all positive — but the potential is exciting.

• A Chattanooga suburb (East Ridge) made Boston.com’s Big Picture last week. Seriously, we got a LOT of rain.

• And finally… the Origin of Stupidty

Two posts, two people

Both of these appeared to me today from facebook friends who don’t know each other:

Children with Diabetes:

Imagine viewing over 800 kids checking their blood sugar all at once before breakfast. Imagine!

Or imagine having to descend on your preschool child multiple times a day and stabbing him or her with a needle while listening to uncomprehending screams of protest.

And then please consider giving something — even just a few bucks — to Joshua’s ride (there is no minimum donation!). You don’t have to know this guy (I don’t! He’s a FOAF!) to give:

For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure well within our lifetime!

Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won’t you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!

I gave a bit. I bet you could too. Click the “donate to this rider” button!

Friday Creature

Another busy week! Wow! Things do move quickly in the fall! This morning I attended the grand opening celebration of Ivy Academy, one of the two pioneering charter schools that became part of our community this year. I might have some photos from that at some point…

But in the meantime, here’s a picture of a horse in Chicago. It’s not the greatest photo in the world (I was walking quickly when I snapped it), but I’m sharing it because of the cool water fountain that the horse is using — it’s a such a pretty and creative way to keep the working animals hydrated in the city! Anyway, more photos can be found on this week’s Ark! Have a great weekend!

Yay! It’s autumn!

My favorite time of year! Cooler temps, a fresh slate (if you’re on an academic calendar), pristine school supplies, new hope in the football season, nesting at home and cooking yummy stews and soups!

Five Fingers On My Feet!

They’re not in the house yet. They came up in another post and yesterday was the first chance I’ve had to pop over to the North Shore and try some on. The folks at the Rock/Creek store were kind enough to let me give them a whirl, though unfortunately they didn’t have many in stock, so I while I was able to take a picture, but had to leave without any vibram fivefingers of my own (I did get Emmie some new chacos, though!).

I was a little apprehensive about putting these shoes on. I didn’t want to be disappointed and the only other thing I’ve ever worn that separated my toes were those socks from the 70s — and I definitely was not a fan of those! Putting the fivefingers on freaked me out a bit because the process made my feet feel a bit catastrophic, but once I had them on, it was a huge relief! I have never worn such comfortable shoes! I took a jog around the store and am pretty sure these will make really good running shoes. They allowed me to fall into the natural gait that I use when I’m barefooting on the treadmill.

I liked the Classics better than the Sprints, which is what I tried on (they are so snug that the strap feels unnecessary), and they didn’t have any Classics in my size in stock. Plus, these things cost $75.00, which for me is a lot to spend on a pair of shoes! And having running shoes is not really going to be an issue until I want to run outside. Given the recent weather here in Tennessee, that is not likely to be for a while, so there’s no big hurry… maybe this can even wait for xmas…

But in the meantime, here’s my feet — perhaps properly swaddled for the first time in my life. The guy in the store probably thought I was insane for taking a photo of my feet, but as Emmie pointed out, most people probably think I’m insane anyway… And if by some freakish coincidence you have a size 37 women’s classic fivefingers pair of shoes you don’t want, I’d be glad to take them off your hands — or feet, as it were (if they’re the black ones, even better!)!

I now have lakefront property

I snapped this picture of my back yard yesterday evening. It’s been raining steadily since then.
