DD and I spent the day today driving around North Alabama, which is always fun. It was a fairly colorless day and quite foggy before noon, so it wasn’t a great outing in terms of picture-taking, but it was nice and warm out and the company was good. We’ve both been busy lately, so it was good to spend the time in the car, getting caught up. Plus, I really enjoyed getting out the house for a while — I’ve been pretty cooped up since the dog’s been sick.
The main purpose of our trip was to pick up a kegerator I bought on eBay this week (an upgrade for us). That took us to the upper edge of Huntsville, which looked beautiful this morning as the fog settled into the valleys, below the tops of the area’s hills where the sun was breaking through. While we were in the neighborhood, we also hit Unclaimed Baggage and the Lodge Outlet Store, and we rounded out the day with a really great lunch at a Mexican restaurant (Buena Vista) in Scottsboro, AL.
It was pretty cool for a spontaneous outing.

That’s an area which I’ve spent little time in despite being in close proximity my entire life. Mentone is a pretty cool place to stop by on the edge of Lookout Mountain but probably further south than your route. My fam used to camp at DeSoto State Park close by. I keep forgetting about Alabama.

I traveled through northern Alabama a couple of years ago and was surprised at how pretty I found it to be. I guess I hadn’t given much thought to the fact that the hilly terrain extended down and west that far. Glad you enjoyed your day.

I have to do that drive to Huntsville on occasion for work, and parts can be pretty nice. But it definitely is foggy a lot in the mornings.

I wonder if perhaps the fogginess is because of the lakes — Nickajack and Guntersville really dominate the area.
I’ve been to Mentone a couple of times, Fletch, and it’s very cool — a really artsy community!

Yeah, I think the fog all comes from the river.
