I haven’t gotten to go on a photo hunt yet, but I did need some paint recently and found this little bird sitting on the carts outside of Lowe’s. Finch? Sparrow? You tell me.

Have a great weekend, everyone, and check out the creatures on the ark at some point!

Back to the barnyard series… I think I’m out of goats, but here’s another chicken. He’s got quite the menacing appearance — when I first looked at this photo, that iconic music from Jaws started running through my head.

Have a great weekend, everyone! In just one more week, we’ll be looking at the final hours of this, the Longest Presidential Campaign Ever (the butterflies in my stomach multiply by the day!). Be cool and don’t forget to pop by the modulator’s ark to check out this week’s passengers!

The barnyard series continues this week with the singing chicken.

Hold onto your hats, folks — it’s going to be a busy weekend! Stay cool and if you need to relax, go check out the creatures on this week’s ark! Have a good one!

What with last week’s silkie and this week’s chicken, I have maybe gotten started on a barnyard series. Stay tuned and we’ll see! And in the meantime, check out the arkettes!

Would you believe me if I told you this is a chicken? It’s a silkie, and it lives on my brother’s farm in Western New York.

Happy Friday, everyone! Have a wonderful weekend, and don’t forget to check in with the Friday Ark!

This neighborhood mockingbird not only mocked the dog and I when we were out on a walk, but it repeatedly dive bombed us — I suspect we might have been uncomfortably close to its nest.

Have a good weekend, everyone! The creatures on the ark are ready to wish you well if you stop by. Be safe and happy, and enjoy the Olympics!

I got a couple of shots of this neighborhood bluebird, but in this one, his feathers are ruffled. I’m not sure if that’s from the wind or agitation.

Happy August, everyone! (And where has the summer disappeared to?!?) Have a wonderful weekend — have fun, be careful and don’t forget to check in on all the critters!

A couple of weeks ago, the dog and I wandered over to the grand re-opening of the Warner Park Softball Complex and we ran into this leggy killdeer, who was hanging out with some friends. I hadn’t ever seen this kind of bird around here before and thought perhaps they had lost their way, as they looked like they belonged at the shore. But as it turns out, I just don’t spend enough time at ball game venues, because according to my Sibley Guide, this bird is often found in upland habitats, far from water, and is “widespread on farmland, ballfields and the like.”

Here I am, four years into this blogging adventure, with over a hundred birds posted so far, and I’m still learning something new every day. Pretty cool. And many more creatures are lining over on the modulator’s ark! Have a great weekend!

I went kind of nuts this week, and bring you the birds of Turkey (or at least the ones I was able to capture).

Today’s Friday Ark is a special Iowa Flooding Edition. It’s going to be a rough weekend around Cedar Rapids, and I hope for the best. I wish we could volunteer to take the rain hit for them, as we’re still sitting in a drought down here.

As always, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy and be safe!

I saw storks quite often — they are pretty common and widespread, on the west coast, anyway. They’re beautiful, elegant birds.

Here is a human’s-eye view of a cardinal to help usher in the weekend.

Have a great one, folks! Swing by and give the critters on the Ark a nod and be safe!
