I’m still working from the archives here. I saw this picture and thought it cried out for the caption: “What? Didn’t you see the Do Not Disturb sign?”
Well, chances are, if you’re in the States, you’re probably experiencing some pretty awful weather. It’s been raining all week here and now it’s going to get cold — but we won’t be seeing any of the snow that’s making everything so pretty and chaotic north of here, in the northwest, midwest and northeast — well, pretty much everywhere north of here. Stay safe out there as you’re visiting, traveling and finishing up the holiday shopping! And remember, it’s always safe and warm on the Modulator’s ark!

Gosh, but it’s gotten quiet around here lately! I’ve been swamped getting ready for the house full of people we’ll be getting over Christmas. Dusting, vacuuming and meal planning is all well and good, but it’s not inspirational (well, maybe thinking about menus is…). Plus, the news hasn’t been motivating me to spring over to the keyboard to participate in the discussion — I can’t get worked up one way or another about the idea of a Senator Caroline Kennedy (I’d like to see the job go to someone who’s done some dues-paying, but I think she’ll probably do a good job — and if she doesn’t, New Yorkers can vote for someone else in two years). And I’m not stirred to action over the news that Rick Warren will pray — or something — at the inauguration (yeah, the guy can be a douche, but Obama’s right — if we’re all going to try to get along, we’re going to have to try to get along).
But I do have some pictures of the fun we had last week, fixing a sinking, cracking wall in our circa 1914 house…
A lot of people think the internet is shortening our attention spans to the point where we won’t read anything that takes more than two minutes of our time. If that applies to you, then you might want to just move along. But if you can still focus on something for more time than it takes to watch a YouTube video, here’s some interesting stuff:
Requiem for a Maverick — a post-mortem on the McCain campaign.
Our Mutual Joy — Opponents of gay marriage often cite Scripture. But what the Bible teaches about love argues for the other side.
And one more — which technically isn’t long-format, but since it’s a month’s worth of blog posts, it might as well be — One Dollar Diet Project (here’s the premise and scroll down here for Day One).
Enjoy!
I haven’t gotten to go on a photo hunt yet, but I did need some paint recently and found this little bird sitting on the carts outside of Lowe’s. Finch? Sparrow? You tell me.
Have a great weekend, everyone, and check out the creatures on the ark at some point!

Your celebrity chef this evening is Jon Stewart. And your main course is a homophobe and his tiresome, pathetic attempt to hide behind his increasingly incoherent interpretation of the Bible, or his quickly cobbled together and rigid definition of marriage — which has, in fact, been constantly evolving over the years. If you need a straw for your beverage, just wait a moment — Huckabee will be grasping for one pretty soon.
Please people — if you’re really not trying to jam your religion down the throats of the rest of us, you’re going to have to come up with a non-Biblical reason for us to discriminate against homosexuals. Otherwise, well… we’re done and you’re wrong. The biblical argument doesn’t work.
(And don’t get me started on procreation — or do you think this marriage should have been prevented?)

And check out this clip (via Joe. My. God):
Anyone who thought it’s time to slack off after the big election hasn’t looked at the calendar lately. Just around the corner — in March, 2009 — are the Chattanooga city elections. The mayor’s office and city council posts are all up for grabs, and the campaigns are just starting to swing into gear.
Now, those of you who were counting on Tennessee Ticket’s Joe Lance to keep you informed about all the races were probably disappointed to learn that you’ll have to find another source for Joe’s special brand of local political coverage. But you also might have been thrilled to learn that he’s backing away from his blog because he’s making his own run for the mayor’s office.
Last night, Joe had his campaign kickoff, and I swung by and took a few photos while enjoying the crowd. The turnout was good, the people were engaged and lively, and Joe made a few remarks about his goals for government, prominently featuring the ideal of citizen participation. Hopefully he will be able to mount a vigorous campaign, and give Ron Littlefield a run for his money!
